Invictus Digital is a UK digital marketing business, and it is run by one person. I am Harry Barker, and I work directly with local and service businesses on their websites, their visibility in Google Search and the enquiries that come from both.

About Harry Barker
Most of the businesses I work with are not short of skill. They are short of the right kind of attention. The work is good, the customers who find them are happy, and yet the phone only rings when somebody passes their name on. That is a fragile way to run a business, and it is usually the thing that brings people to me.
My job is to make a business visible to the people already looking for it, then make what they land on convincing enough that they get in touch. That is really the whole of it. A website that reads well and a presence in search that puts it in front of the right people, working as one thing rather than two separate projects.
I keep the client list small on purpose. It means I can stay close to each business, understand the jobs they want more of, and make decisions based on what those jobs are worth rather than on what looks good in a report.
The business
Founder of Invictus Digital
Invictus Digital is my business. When you contact it, you are contacting me. I take the first call, scope the work, build it, review it and answer the emails afterwards. There is no account manager in the middle and nothing gets handed down to somebody junior once the agreement is signed.
That structure is deliberate. A lot of the frustration people describe with agencies comes from distance - the person who understood the business in the first conversation is not the person doing the work, so intent gets lost somewhere between the two. Removing that gap makes the work more honest and the feedback loop much shorter.
It also means I have to be straight about fit. If a service is not right for a business, or the level of demand in their area does not support what they are hoping for, I would rather say so before anybody commits to anything than take the work and manage expectations afterwards.
Search
Local SEO and Google visibility
Local search is where most enquiries for a service business begin. Somebody needs a job doing, they type what they need and where they are, and they choose from what comes back. The aim of my local SEO work is simple: be one of the options that comes back, and be the one that looks worth calling.
In practice that means building pages around real service-and-place searches, getting the technical foundations right so those pages can be crawled and understood, and treating the Google Business Profile as part of the same system rather than an afterthought.
- Pages built around the services people actually search for, in the places you cover
- Technical and on-page foundations so those pages can be found and understood
- Google Business Profile set up and maintained as a proper part of the picture
- Attention kept on the pages that are starting to show promise
Websites
Website design for local businesses
A website only matters in so far as it turns interest into an enquiry. I build sites for local and service businesses with that single job in mind: explain the work clearly, look like a business worth trusting, and make getting in touch obvious.
The design side matters, but it is not the point on its own. A site that looks beautiful and is never found, or is found and never gets anybody to pick up the phone, has not done anything useful.
- A clear structure that leads to an enquiry rather than a dead end
- Copy written around the work you want more of, not filler
- Fast, tidy pages that read well on a phone
- Enquiry journeys that are simple to complete and easy to track
How I work
The approach behind Invictus Digital
I do not treat a website as an isolated design project. A site and its visibility in search are the same piece of work, and separating them is why so many businesses end up with something they like the look of that nobody ever sees. Structure, content and search intent get decided together, at the start.
Every engagement begins with what a good job looks like for that business - the work they want more of, the areas they realistically cover, and the enquiries that waste their time. Everything after that is built around those answers.
Then it gets reviewed on whether it produced real work. Rankings and traffic are useful signals, but they are not the point. The measure that matters is whether the right kind of enquiry is arriving and whether the business can service it profitably.
None of this is complicated, and I try not to make it sound as though it is. Clear explanations, straight numbers before anything starts, and one person accountable for the outcome.
